Abstract :
To test whether total nitrogen: total phosphorus ratio (TN:TP ratio) might be used as an index to indicate the phytoplankton nutrient limitation categories and to test the limiting factors of eutrophication in Yanghe Reservoir, three years monitoring data was analyzed. According to correlation analysis, regression analysis of data, the results show that the TN:TP ratio is inappropriate as an index to classify Yanghe Reservoir into N- or P-limited categories and total phosphorus (TP) is the primary nutrient limiting phytoplankton chlorophyll-a over the entire TN:TP spectrum in Yanghe Reservoir. Therefore, phosphorus abatement should be the primary target in Yanghe Reservoir management.
