Abstract :
Facing constant pressure from municipalities and deregulation on the horizon, municipal utilities are forced to render their operation more efficient. Reduction of distribution losses not only contributes directly to the utilities bottom line, but also brings about many other benefits which can be more difficult to quantify. An overview of the practical concerns associated with performing a distribution system loss reduction is presented including capacitor installation, reconductoring, voltage modifications, distribution transformer load management, feeder reconfiguration, and SCADA capabilities
