Abstract :
With the issue that most traditional dithering techniques may bring horizontal and vertical artifacts and grid contouring effects, a novel method for constructing dithering matrix is proposed to improve the half-toning process. Firstly, an appropriate dithering matrix is constructed through element re-composition and discrete rotation based on the primary dispersed-dot Bayer dithering matrix. Secondly, the new matrix is used for half-toning to remove the defects existed in the traditional dithering matrix. Experimental results show that the new dithering algorithm has stronger capabilities of tone reproduction and detail representation as compare with the other congener progressive dithering algorithms.
