Title :
Arthur´s adamancy about accuracy, and anecdotes “PBG” = Periodic By Golly
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
In 1999, Prof. Oliner, assisted by Prof. Linda Katehi, Prof. Madhu Gupta and myself, worked to counteract the growing usage of the term “PBG” (Photonic Band Gap) to describe perioidic arrays (including filters and other components) displaying conventional passband and stopband characteristics. Arthur was insistent that inventing new terminology was no substitute for inventing new devices or concepts. This paper (now updated be cause of its later impact) was written by our group, but approved and edited by Arthur. Following the paper, I shall mention a few anecdotal recollections of the impact Arthur has had on my life.
