Abstract :
Most digital mobile communication systems at present provide circuit switched connections for carrying voice or data. The data is usually provided with forward error correction and deep interleaving to combat the fading process characteristic to the mobile environment. We describe a novel packet access scheme, the inhibit sense multiple access with polling (ISMA/P), suitable for a star topology cellular system. The ISMA/P also lends itself nicely to a selective reject type of automatic repeat request scheme. This article details the combined MAC-ARQ scheme of ISMA/P and provides simulation results for the same
