  • Abstract
    Maintaining the mobility of tomorrow´s society is one of the most important challenges for the future. Since fossil fuels are limited, replacement energy sources, novel drive-systems and intermodal transportation concepts have to be researched. Currently, the “battery powered electric power-train” is one of the most promising technologies in the process of finding replacements for convential vehicle solutions. In spite of advantages like silent engine sound or increased torque, battery dependent Electric Vehicles (EVs) face limited drive ranges, possible battery outages and safety challenges. To prove current state-of-the-art EVs are reliable in long-term-use as well as in intermodal transportation concepts, a lot of parameters (e.g. speed, brake usage or battery status) have to be recorded. These logged parameters are important for the development of cruising-range-models incorporating local conditions. Furthermore, a complete log of the “car-history” contributes to predict or explain outages (e.g. battery). This paper decribes generic methologies to extract these valuable invehicle parameters from the CAN (Controller Area Network) without the use of dedicated sensors. Additionally, a proposal for a scientific Fleet Management Infrastructure is presented, which is collecting all relevant data and performs real-time model-calculations.
