Abstract :
This paper proposes a new method for object retrieval in image and video databases. The proposed system uses the histogram based approach along with Angular Radial Representation (ARR). In addition, concepts of Dominant Colors (DCs) and morphological dilation using ring-shaped and fan-shaped Structuring Elements (SEs) are also applied. It is found that the approach is not only invariant to rotation, translation and scaling but also valid for low resolution images and partial occlusion. The retrieval effectiveness of the proposed system is shown through experiments using a comprehensive set of images including deformable shapes.
