Abstract :
Engineers in the petroleum and chemical industry have referenced Insulated Cable Engineers Association (ICEA) standards for years to specify power and control cables. These familiar standards used for industrial applications have been withdrawn and replaced with new ICEA standards. Electric utility standards that have been referenced by many for medium voltage industrial applications have also been replaced. This paper reviews the background to the changes in the standards and how they have changed. This will provide guidance to engineers on how they should update their specifications. It also provides an update to the specification section of “IEEE 1242 Guide for Specifying and Selecting Cable for Petrochemical Plants”
