  • Abstract
Summary form only given. This presentation focuses on technology and market trends that are shaping the landscape for the next generation of multimedia applications and titles. These trends include: low cost multimedia PCs are becoming ubiquitous and are forming a huge installed base of multimedia-capable systems in businesses and homes; the internet has rapidly become the medium of choice for deploying dynamic multimedia applications, yet it presents an entirely new set of challenges for multimedia developers; a new generation of object oriented tools is enabling new classes of dynamic, interactive, networked multimedia applications; visual object-oriented tools are fundamentally different than language or code-based OO tools and they enable creativity rather than programming considerations alone to drive the development process; and constant advances in base multimedia technologies such as 3D require development technologies that are based on an open object model for easy extensibility.
