Abstract
In this paper, the upper-bound for RZ SSB, determined from the thermal noise, has been experimentally revealed in SINAD performance. It is found that both an improved linearizer and a selective amplifier are useful in reaching the upper-bound and that the introduction of an amplitude limiter and a frequency discriminator for an RZ SSB signal does not influence the quality if the receiver is well implemented. BER evaluation of MODEM signals, with transmission speeds of 2.4, 4.8, and 9.6 kbps, was performed by employing a well implemented RZ SSB receiver. It is also found that there is no ´floor´ in BER characteristics.
