  • Abstract
    Consider a transmission system where the input-output characteristic of the high-power amplifier can be modeled as a hard limiter. For distortion free transmission to be possible, the peak power of the filtered signal at the amplifier input must not exceed the saturation point. A meaningful problem is the following: for a fixed rate of transmission, for a fixed distance between constellation points and for a given shaping filter, design a code to control the peak power of the filtered signal at the amplifier input. We present a design technique and give the performance of codes based on the proposed technique
