Abstract :
TCP is a reliable transport protocol tuned to perform well in traditional networks made up of wired links with stationary hosts. But it encounters many problems in the satellite environment, causing degraded performance. Some of these problems are discussed, and some modification schemes to TCP and a new satellite protocol designed for satellite networks are introduced. Simulations and experiments are implemented to compare the performance of three of these schemes. After analyzing and discussing the results, several suggestions are put forward to provide some guidance for choosing transport protocol implementation schemes in satellite networks
