  • Abstract
This paper highlights a few important hardware and software considerations taken in the designing process of an intelligent and highly configurable DC-to-DC ATX power supply designated especially for automotive applications. Using computers in automobiles born a series of interesting problems regarding the PSU behavior and characteristics. For example, controlling the startup and shutdown sequence of the connected PC system, based on the ignition key´s position, in order to start the system and preserve battery at the same time, is one of the key features needed to be solved. The system has to conform to ATX specification, but also survive load dumps and engine cranks. Tough engine cranks needs compensation in order to maintain the ATX output voltages regulated. Simulations and experimental results validate the presented design process.
