Abstract
A multilevel resource allocation scheme is proposed to tackle the problem of how to flexibly allocate limited wireless network resources to high bandwidth demand video traffic with certain QoS guarantees. This scheme utilizes the resource allocation flexibility provided by a CDMA/TDD system and assigns available bandwidth to different traffic loads. The available bandwidth includes codes, time slots, and up/down channel capacity. A computer simulation system based on Ericsson´s wideband packet-CDMA architecture has been developed. Multiple MPEG video traces are used to explore the system capacity. Moreover, an optimal smoothing technique is used to pre-process the video traces so that the bit-rate variability and the bandwidth requirement are reduced. The simulation results demonstrate the significant performance improvement
