Abstract :
Summary form only given. Transmission experiments performed on a 3800-km subsegment of the TAT-12 optically amplified submarine cable system have recently shown the means for 5-Gbit/s transmission over a total concatenated fiber length of 15,200 km. Designed to connect Europe and America, TAT-12 will be the first installed transatlantic optically amplified submarine cable system.
