Abstract
The paper deals with modelling of the L-valine fermentation process. The modelling problem of biotechnological processes has three aspects: (a) determination of generalised stoichiometric reactions; (b) identification of the underlying reaction network; (c) identification of the kinetics structure and parameters of reaction rates, following an investigation of the model by simulation. These stages are discussed based on experimental results from amino acid production. Biotechnological process for L-valine production by fed-batch fermentation is used for elucidation of the approach for solving the modelling problem. The approach presented includes the following steps: (a) choose a set of generalised stoichiometric reactions, (b) structural and parametric identification of the specific rates for the discussed process using linear and nonlinear regression, (c) optimisation of unstructured dynamic model of L-valine production using constrained optimisation procedure. The adequacy of the proposed modes is assessed through simulation research.
