  • Abstract
    This paper develops a signaling system for high bit rate wireless LANs, made possible by a new class of signaling pulses. They are derived from the OWDM pulses by spreading them in the wavelet domain, using a suitable family of PN codes. Unlike the pulses used in OFDM, TDMA, and even OWDM, these new pulses have both a wide time support and a wide frequency support. Some of the advantages realized are: (a) single or multiple user capability, (b) inherent frequency diversity for overcoming frequency selective fading, (c) continuously pipelined operation (in contrast to OFDM), and (d) a high BW efficiency, which is about twice that for DS-CDMA (assuming rectangular chips for DS-CDMA). The target bit rates for this work range from 100 Mbps and up, in the 5.7 GHz band
