Abstract
Ad-hoc networks utilizing wireless technology have been considered as a means of providing communication capabilities to among portable user terminals that temporarily meet, where distance and time come close yet easy connection to a network infrastructure is not possible. We have been advancing this concept of ad-hoc networks and have already proposed a Wireless Ad-hoc Community Network (WACNet). We show the basic features of the WACNet and also present the key technologies achieving the WACNet, that is, a new routing scheme named Angle-SINR Table Routing, the concept of space division multiple access (SDMA), important technologies needed to reduce the cost and weight of the user terminals, microwave signal processing for adaptive beamforming, and ESPAR antennas which are a practical hardware realization of aerial beamforming (ABF). Applications showing the effectiveness of the WACNet are also introduced
