  • Abstract
This paper represents a system for remote temperature monitoring of overhead transmission lines. The infrared radiation of the conductor are used to determine its temperature, thus allowing a remote measurement free from insulation problems. This continuous monitoring of the critical points of a transmission system allows better utilisation of the line especially in high temperature conditions. Test results on an aluminum conductor, both in laboratory and outdoors, are reported
