Abstract :
This paper addresses a mechanism to support both real-time and non-real time communication services in a fixed broadband wireless network with the probing process. In such a network each cell is divided into multiple sectors, each of them served by a sector antenna co-located with the base station (BS), and user terminals also use directional antennas mounted on the rooftops and pointed to their respective BS antennas. We propose the probing process based on the staggered resource allocation (SRA) algorithm to improve data packet transmission without information exchange and coordination among base stations. To support real time and non-real time traffic and efficiently implement the probing process in the FDD method, we adopt prioritized access with centralized polling control that shares the bandwidth for the different requests of real-time users and non-real time users
