Abstract :
Multimedia services in a wideband time division-code division multiple access (TD-CDMA) wireless system have heterogeneous bit error rate (BER) and quality of service (QoS) requirements. In order to improve system throughput and guarantee QoS of multimedia traffic in such a wireless system, the medium access control (MAC) protocol demands a high performance scheduling scheme. In this paper a novel scheduling scheme is first proposed based on unequal power levels of the received signals. Then a MAC protocol is developed on the basis of the novel scheduling scheme. Simulation results show that the MAC protocol cannot only significantly improve the system throughput, but it can also guarantee QoS of multimedia traffic even if high system throughput is achieved
