Abstract
This paper describes analytical, numerical and experimental results for reducing 50 Hz magnetic fields originating from secondary substations. Attention is given to economically effective solutions. The global framework applied was to reduce the field at the sources instead of doing it at the affected area. For this purpose, a manifold of techniques were developed, such as, conductive and ferromagnetic shielding, passive and active compensation. These techniques take into account all the major sources within a substation
