Abstract :
We propose a multiuser detection (MUD) receiver that adaptively combines varying degrees of joint detection (JD) and successive interference cancellation (SIC). allowing a trade-off between complexity and performance. It arranges users of roughly similar power into groups and performs a group-wise JD to mitigate intersymbol interference (ISI) and multiple access interference (MAI) within each group. It removes MAI between groups via SIC. Analysis indicates that a complexity which is 60% to 30% that of JD is achievable while the performance is comparable to that of JD. Key applications include burst mode wideband-CDMA systems such as the 3rd generation time division duplex system
