Abstract
This paper describes a robust design method that can give a valid description and analysis to a certain kind of parameter uncertainties in concurrent design. The mathematical model, which reflects the requirements of the robust design, is given in the paper. A general consistency algorithm framework is designed using interval arithmetic to refine the intervals. The quantitative effect of downstream constraints can be considered before determination of design parameters and potential conflicts can be predicted using an interval consistency algorithm to avoid significant redesign. This paper presents the technical foundation for "right the first time" in concurrent engineering
