Abstract
In this paper, problems related to fault detection and isolation (FDI) in sampled-data (SD) systems are studied. A tool to analyze SD systems from the viewpoint of FDI and based on it a direct design approach of FDI system are developed. Key of these studies is the introduction of an operator which is used to describe the sampling effect. With the aid of the developed tool, we also study the perfect decoupling problem, the influence of sampling on the performance of FDI system and the relationship between the direct and indirect design approaches. The application of the approach proposed is finally illustrated and compared with the indirect design approaches through examples
