Abstract
Large (6×6 cm) linear Silicon Drift Detectors (SDD) have been developed and are in production for use in the Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT), the inner tracking detector of the STAR Experiment at the RHIC Collider. The SVT has been active for 7 years and is a few months from completion. The presentation addresses the SDD performance and the present status of the project. Results from a 7 wafer ladder installed in the STAR for the last six months are presented. Detector performance from a 15 layer SDD tracker (proto-type SVT) is shown. This is the first tracking application of these detectors. Lastly the installation of the SVT is briefly addressed along with associated design choices (grounding, cooling, interlocks)
