Abstract
Some flexible appendages of spacecraft are cantilever plate structures, such as sun plate. Piezoelectric smart structure is used to suppress the vibration due to the parameter uncertainties and environmental disturbances. An energy-based optimal placement strategy for the placement of piezoelectric actuators/sensors in active vibration suppression of flexible plate is adopted. Based on the degree of observability and controllability of the dynamical model including bending and torsion modes, the input matrix was properly weighted according to the contribution to observability and controllability for corresponding modes. The optimal placement indices of the candidate sensor and actuator locations are adopted by means of controllability gramian matrix. The experimental facility of piezoelectric smart plate for active vibration control was designed and built up, identification of the flexible cantilever plate system is investigated, the experimental results verified that the optimal strategy is feasible
