  • Abstract
When using a glucose meter for point-of-care testing, the hematocrit (HCT) estimation is important to reduce errors associated with the measurement of blood glucose concentration. A high HCT results in lowered blood glucose levels while for a low HCT it is increased from the actual values. Proposed is an HCT estimation method using amperometry and indirectly measuring blood viscosity in a small volume capillary cell of a disposable sensor strip. Depending on the estimated HCT, the glucose concentration is calculated using the adaptive calibration curve. The proposed method shows a glucose value with improved accuracy compared to the single calibration curve method.
