  • Abstract
The coordination of the protection relays in electric power systems is one of the most important and expensive tasks because a bad operation by discoordination and the amount of data that needs to be process can impact the system. In this article, an optimal coordination of directional overcurrent relays of six-bar electric power system is realized; various case studies are analyzed in which the operation of the relays are adjusted so that they operate as backup protection of the main distance protections, using a genetic algorithm.
