Abstract
Reliability of the Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication is one of the key factors towards ensuring large-scale deployment of the cooperative vehicular systems. From the communication perspective, urban intersection scenarios can be challenging due to a frequent absence of line-of-sight (LOS) conditions. It is often combined with highly dense network conditions due to high amount of traffic lights, fast route changes and stop-and-go traffic. In this paper, we evaluate the reliability of V2V applications at urban intersections in congested network conditions. We demonstrate that closed intersection topology is the most favorable when compared to half-opened and opened topologies and that the degradation distance requirement is more challenging to fulfill than the reliable communication range requirement.
