Abstract :
This paper presents a mixed-signal IC design of a robust edge detector for visual motion detection. The edge detector is responsive to moving objects with wide speed range, but insensitive to background luminance variation and input density variation. It also has fast transient response for accurate speed calculation. Simulation shows that the design can detect objects moving at speeds ranging from 5 pixels/s to 5×105 pixels/s. In addition, this design results in relatively small pixel size suitable for high-density integration; it is targeted to provide a robust and compact input stage for a high-resolution 2D visual motion detection chip.
