Abstract :
An approach for a unified end-to-end control scheme is introduced on the basis of a three level inter-gap analysis at the TSAP (transfer service access point) in the ISO/OSI (open systems interconnection) transport layer. The authors provide a real-time analysis and control mechanism for connection-oriented transport service (COTS) and connectionless transport service (CLTS) on the basis of a unified independent reference model at the transport endpoint in the TSAP. The statistics were estimated from the states and transitions of the transport endpoints. Based on the proposed concept, more sophisticated end-to-end performance analysis, control, and management can be done in real-time for existing packet networks and future fast packet networks (e.g., asynchronous transfer mode networks) based on the ISO/OSI and CCITT/ISDN
