Abstract
This paper proposes a new method to combat the attenuation due to rain for direct broadcasting satellite (DBS) system. The proposed method combines the hierarchical modulation scheme and on-board resource sharing scheme to improve the transmission performance degraded by the attenuation due to rain. To combine these two schemes, further improvement in the transmission performance will be expected. This paper analyzes the transmission performance of the system theoretically. This paper then shows that the proposed system improves the average spectral efficiency and the outage probability performances
