Abstract :
A system is described that reconstructs the 3-D shape of the left or right ventricle from biplane angiocardiographic image sequences. The ventricle is built up in slices with a model-based binary reconstruction technique. This exploits the density information in addition to the ventricular contours. The ambiguity of the problem is removed by considering the shape of human ventricular casts. The necessary phases of image correction and processing are discussed, placing emphasis on the problems associated with achieving the correct scaling of the density profiles. Finally, the program is evaluated by means of ventricular phantoms and applied to routinely acquired biplane angiocardiograms.<>
