Abstract
The method of designing CMOS pseudo log-domain filters using direct mapping from a linear signal flow graph is demonstrated. A third-order Chebyshev filter prototype is designed and fabricated in a standard 0.35 μm CMOS technology. The filter reaches a maximum operating frequency of 12 MHz - the highest to be reported to date for a CMOS companding-based filter. A dynamic range of 43 dB is achieved, which compares well to similar log-domain filters implemented in bipolar technologies.
