Abstract :
Families of codes that are applicable to optical synchronous spread-spectrum code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communication systems as well as to arbitrary synchronous time-hopping-based spread-spectrum CDMA systems are introduced. The construction of the proposed codes is based on number theoretic results on quadratic congruences, and on a subset of Reed-Solomon codes as used in the Welch-Costas design of frequency-hop patterns. The properties of the proposed codes, in terms of the number of code-families, sizes of code-families and pseudo-orthogonality, are shown to be better than or as good as the properties of existing codes for synchronous CDMA communications.<>
