Abstract
This paper presents analysis and experimental results of two fault current limiters, the Thyristor Inserted Reactor and the Thyristor Bypassed Capacitor. The purpose for these fault current limiters is to reduce the overstress of some circuit breakers provoked by the network expansion and the consequent increase in fault current levels. Results of the experimental prototype demonstrate the effectiveness of these devices to limit fault currents, postponing or avoiding the replacement of circuit breakers with surpassed fault current interrupting capacity.
