Abstract :
A new algorithm based on gradient information for the extraction of endocardial borders in bi-dimensional echocardiography is presented, Using an optimal edge detector a good efficiency in edge detection and localization is obtained. Recursive implementation enables us to have an infinite duration for the gradient filter, meanwhile the computational volume is maintained in the order of a 3×3 window. A special designed algorithm for closing bi-dimensional edge maps allows us to suppress the noise by choosing high thresholds for hysteresis thresholding. Finally as a new approach we combined a few number of edge maps obtained with different values of filter parameters. Excellent results show the efficiency of the algorithm in detection of endocardial borders in noisy echocardiographic images in children
