Abstract :
The effect of dynamic traffic information on the relaxation process was studied. The provision of dynamic traffic information on a real-time basis to individual vehicles is expected to settle traffic congestion caused by the imbalance of traffic flow distribution to the network of roads. However, it also has been indicated that real-time traffic information disorders the traffic flow because of a driver rush for the "appropriate" route of the moment. In this paper, we show that real-time traffic information based on average velocity gives rise to fluctuation with chaotic structure in the relaxation process of the traffic flow formed by cellular automata. On the other hand, it is proposed that real-time traffic information composed by time-differentiation of average velocity could be an effective way to relieve the fluctuation of the traffic flow
