Abstract
Large-scale image sensing system is considered to provide better coverage than conventional video surveillance systems with small number of image sensors; however, on the other hand, the bandwidth problem is likely to occur because the network resources should be shared by the image sensors at the same time, which makes it difficult to implement a practical system. As one of the feasible solutions, we present the system using a spatially-variant sampling (SVS) smart image sensor for real-time spatial resolution control that is hard to achieve by the conventional CCD image sensors. The regions with moving objects are detected on the sensor nodes and transmitted with different spatial resolution and temporal rate. The simulation results support the effectiveness of this scheme. The experimental system is being developed
