Abstract
Summary form only given. In analogy to an electron in a periodic crystal potential, photonic crystals (PC) use a periodic modulation of the refractive index in one, two or three dimensions in order to create photonic band gaps. The propagation of light can be controlled on nanometer scale leading to applications such as compact filters, highly efficient light emitters or sharply bent waveguides. Therefore PC offer promising ways for the realization of integrated optic devices. We have investigated light transmission through 60/spl deg/ bent 2D-photonic crystal waveguides.
