Abstract :
Out-of-step prediction is an important requirement for reducing wide scale transient instability conditions in power systems. An intelligent technique for predicting out-of-step conditions amongst individual generators is presented. The method uses the wavelet energy of generator speed deviations in 3 cycles, after bus(es) and/or line(s) are tripped, to predict out-of-step conditions. The study system used the IEEE 39-bus as the test system.
