  • Abstract
A discontinuous current mode control scheme for a single phase AC-DC power converter with an active power filtering function and power factor correction scheme has attracted special interest in industrial and telecommunication energy plants. This control strategy has the practical advantages of a simple control procedure configuration and cost-effectiveness. However, for emergency engine-driven generators, a three-phase input power PFC converter has not been effectively adopted because the characteristics of conventional control schemes have some disadvantages for engine-driven generator interactive three-phase AC mains schemes. Thus, a new and simple PFC power converter circuit configuration with a discontinuous current mode control scheme suitable for engine-driven generator interconnected with three-phase AC mains is proposed. This paper presents the operating principle and unique features of the cost-effective engine-driven generator interactive three-phase active PFC converter circuit topology proposed here, along with harmonic current and PFC performance evaluations on the basis of simulation results of this converter as compared with two conventional types of three-phase PFC converters
