Abstract :
In this paper an on line measurement system of cable insulation wall thickness and eccentricity using eddy current was described. A magnetic sensor was designed to form a divergent field, which rotate on the surface of the cable insulation wall. The characterization of probes was optimized by means of 3D limit element analysis of field boundary. The sensor performance can be quantified and the signal relation was given theoretically. The integration of sensor and mechanics and electronic system to an instrument was also reported.
