Abstract
Personal Communication Services (PCS) is a set of capabilities that allows some combination of terminal mobility, personal mobility and service profile management. In other words, PCS allows a person, by employing a unique personal number, to access telecommunications services anytime, anywhere, and with the services controllable by the person himself or herself. PCS has been widely recognized as one of the most significant growth areas in telecommunications for the decade to come. This paper summarizes the PCS development plan in Directorate General of Telecommunications (DGT) in Taiwan, Republic of China. Also, the PCS R&D activities in Telecommunication Laboratories, a research institute under DGT, are described in more detail, including intelligent network for PCS, wireless access technology, propagation measurement and modeling, and RF technology
