Abstract :
Optical discs are popular for exchanging and distributing content. A small Portable Blue (SFFO) disc with a diameter of 30 mm stores at least 1 GByte in a single layer using Blu-ray Disc technology. This paper describes strategies to achieve low power consumption in a Portable Blue system. Estimates show a value around 1/20 of the peak (∼1 W) power while streaming 1 Mb/s data.
