Abstract
This paper presents some new simulation results combining short block coded modulation (BCM) codes based on Galois fields with enhanced trellis decoding for ISI channels. It reports simulation results for a detection technique where the detector is an enhanced Viterbi decoder. This follows the work reported by Chevillat and Eleftheriou (1989), where no extra states are introduced for the channel memory; decision feedback is applied on a per-survivor basis to cancel the ISI. Interblock interference cancellation is also applied. There is special interest in short block based coding schemes for systems where synchronisation time and decoding delay are critical
