Abstract :
Electric motor repair is a significant contributor to facility operating cost. These costs are associated not only with the repair of motors. The scope and quality of repair also has an effect on operating costs, both from the standpoint of reliability and uptime as well as energy cost. Unfortunately electric motor repair is not well understood or managed as well as it should be. Historically motor repair has been looked at with a rather narrow focus. Repair quickly at a reasonable cost, and getting the machine back in service has been the primary concern. The purpose of this paper is to provide a practical education relating to the successful management of electric motor repair. The recommendations presented and the lessons identified in this paper reflect the experience of both a large petro-chemical producer and an electric motor manufacturer.
