Abstract :
General closed-form expressions for a 2D leaky-wave antenna (LWA) are obtained, based on a TEN (transverse equivalent network) model. Results for the radiation pattern, the peak field value, the pattern beamwidth, and the pattern bandwidth are obtained. The closed-form expressions are quite accurate for narrow-beam LWA structures. The new expressions explain many of the physical properties of LWA patterns that are observed, such as why narrow-beam scanning down to endfire is possible in the H-plane, but not the E-plane.
