Abstract :
A smart exercise system consisting of a robotic arm controlled by an IBM-compatible computer, software designed to provide exercise routines and data collection, and a data acquisition board are discussed. This system provides occupational therapists with a therapeutic modality which will allow patients to perform some therapeutic activities on their own. The information presented summarizes the results of a proof-of-concept phase of the project. The research is focused primarily on the use of the system with cerebral vascular accident (CVA) patients. The system is designed to provide exercise routines, collect patient performance data, and generate quantitative performance reports
